Windows XP My Documents Organization Benefits

Hi there, this is Gerard Mainardi. I'm a computer scientist from Drexel University in Philadelphia, and I'd like to talk to you today about how to organize your documents in Microsoft Windows XP. Remember, Windows XP is a trademark of the Microsoft corporation. I am in no way affiliated with Microsoft corporation. Now I've been in the private sector for a couple of years now in a lot of different capacities. But especially when I was doing early level support work, I saw so many users whose documents were just an absolute mess. Things were mislabeled, things were mis-organized, people couldn't find things, and they couldn't get them when they really needed them. Today I'd like to talk to you about how to organize the various parts of your My Documents folder. Especially if you're a novice computer user, this should help you out a lot. There's a bunch of different things you can do here as far as folder structure goes. We're going to be reviewing that. We're going to be reviewing some common file name uses, and the ways that you can name your files to keep everything very organized, so that you'll be able to find it whenever you need it. We're going to talk about deciding what you need to keep, what you don't need to keep. We're also going to talk about how to find things that you might have scattered all over your computer; things you might not even know are there anymore. Lastly, near the end, we're going to talk about some advanced techniques, different ways to categorize your things, different ways to view your items, and we're also going to talk about archiving. This just means as far as compressing your folders into something that's easy to take with you, and as far as bringing it onto something like a key fob here, or bringing it onto a larger book size portable hard drive.
