Getting an Artist Set Up in the Studio: How to Produce an Album
Hi! My name is Larry Hammel, singer, songwriter, engineer and producer of Deep Waves Studio here in New York City and on behalf of Expert Village, I would like to welcome you to how to produce a recording artist. Okay, we just set up Leona in the room. This is going to be her world for the next, who knows how many hours, so you feel comfortable? Okay. We got her set up with a microphone. It is at a good level for her. She doesn't have to strain, she has her cue mix. Can you hear everything in the headphones okay? I can hear. Can you hear your vocal nice? Yeah. Okay, great. The object is we don't want her to fight the music. We want her to be as free and open as possible. She can hear on pitch with the least amount of fatigue necessary that we continue throughout the day. I have this little thing I call a singer either a rocky or a rocket. A rocket meaning that they are just going to blow up and tire out easy or like Rocky Balboa they get stronger as they continue during the day. So she has a glass of water, closed back headphones so there's no bleed. We are ready to go, she feels comfortable so let's record.
