Digital Audio Workstation: Becoming a Music Producer
Hi! My name is Larry Hammel, singer, songwriter, engineer and producer of Deep Waves Studio here in New York City and on behalf of Expert Village, I would like to welcome you to how to produce a recording artists. The digital audio workstation is the center piece of our studio. We will record digitally to hard drive and basically what the converters will do is convert the analog signal to the digital signal and be recorded here where they will actually be drawn out as wave forms. When those wave forms are drawn out, we can do any kind of manipulation we like from editing, comping, various things adding plug ins, routing our signals, whatever we want to do to make the recording process easier and finally get a great mix. In my set-up I use a hybrid system; analog in to digital and then back out to analog again. I find that it brings it a little bit of extra warmth and congeals the mix a little bit better. To me it overall sounds better; that's just the way I work.
