Know the Singer: Becoming a Music Producer
Hi! My name is Larry Hammel, singer, songwriter, engineer and producer of Deep Waves Studio here in New York City and on behalf of Expert Village, I would like to welcome you to how to produce a recording artist. The most important part of a great vocal of course is a great singer. That is the leaning component in what you are about to do. Sometimes you don't know the singer. You have to evaluate the singer, know how long they can sing for, what they sound like, mic selection, various technical things to set yourself up to record an incredible vocal. Let's introduce our singer. We have here our singer Leona Togher and what we would like to do is demonstrate how I acquaint myself with this singer. It is very important to know what your singer is capable of doing, how they can react to certain situations and how long they will last actually as a singer. Leona do you have any pre-flight warm-ups that you do to get yourself in the mood, get your vocals warmed up. I do, I use lip drills a lot, when I am practicing for whatever when I am in music training, before a show before any kind of songs, concerts I always do lip drills and scales up and down. Have you ever recorded in a studio before? Yeah, I have once. I recorded when I was doing musical and it was about 2 or 3 years ago. Excellent!
