How & When to do Card Tricks in a Group
I’m Joe Marshall with expertvillage.com, and today we’re going to discuss flourishes. I just wanted to finish up with a quick note about extreme card manipulation and fancy cuts and fans and all those things. You don’t want to use those things if you don’t know the people, you haven’t been performing for them before. You just don’t want to walk up to them and perform fancy cuts. You’ll kind of be proceed as a showoff and not as a magician. To use these wisely, you only want to use one or two of these things within your card routine. You don’t want to use all of them, unless it’s specified. I’ve been at a party and somebody said hey can you spring the cards from hand to hand. In that case, it’s an open invitation to go ahead and show this type of material, but I wouldn’t out right show it without them knowing that you’re a magician or what you’re going to be doing. They’ll just think you’re a showoff and they won’t respect it as much as if they request to see some talent like that. It is difficult, they know it’s difficult, so when they ask you to do it hey can you spring the cards, it is an invitation to go and do whatever you really want so you can have a whole routine worked out that involves your shuffles, fans, and fancy cuts, and everything like that. I’ll be very careful and use it wisely. If you’re not requested to do it, again, just use one or two of them in your routine and use them sparingly because you don’t want to look like a showoff; you want to look like an entertainer. This is an important point that you want to keep in mind.
