The Hindu Shuffle for Playing Card Shuffling

I'm Joe Marshall with expertvillage.com and today we are going to discuss shuffles and cuts. One more shuffle that I like to get into is known as a Hindu shuffle. What is that? Basically you are going to hold the deck like so at the bottom. Fingers on top, thumb is on back, first fingers on top and you are going almost like a overhand shuffle it is like the reverse of that instead of holding the deck this way to do a overhand shuffle you are going to hold it this way to do a overhand shuffle. What happen this time is your thumb and middle finger take portions of the cards off of the top and you deal them like so. In fast motion it looks like you are going a weird overhand shuffle that is similar to do this. You are just holding the deck in a different angle but in fact you are holding the deck completely different and your dishing off top portion of the cards with your thumb and middle finger until you get through the pack. Reason why this is important to learn as a magician is if you want to have someone secretly select a card that you them to select, you want to place it on the bottom of the pack. You could do a overhand shuffle to get that card there. In this case it is the jack of diamonds and you will begin your Hindu shuffle like so and you just have them tell you when to stop shuffling or dealing of cards in time. So for example you will do this and they would say stop right there and you show them that bottom card which is still the jack of diamonds and you could place it on top or you could complete the shuffle like so and give it to them to take and hold cause you know that you have showed them the card you force the bottom card on them the eight of clubs. Again for this example they would just say stop. You show them the bottom card, you place it back on top you hand them the rest of the deck. For some reason done in full speed and saying stop and turning it over they don't realize that they are seeing the bottom card they think that all cards are just being washed together and you are randomly just pulling one up and stopping whenever they tell you to stop. If is a effective method to get a card for example they would say stop and I want them to see the four of spade I will show it to them. It is a really quick easy way to do a trick when someone say to do a trick with a regular deck of cards that they have given you it is impromptu, you can just go right in to it as longs as you could glance on the bottom cards and conspicuously without anyone noticing and you have a pick a card trick right off the back.
