Tapping Mana in "Magic the Gathering"

Generally, the first thing that a player does on their first turn is play a land. The lands can be easily identified half way down the card, on what is called the type line. Here's the type line that identifies this plains as a land. You're allowed to play one land every turn during your main phase, which we'll get to in subsequent episodes. The lands provide the magical energy that's used to cast the spells, that help you in the game. There are five types of basic land which are the foundation of the game. The five basic lands or plains for white spells, swamps for black spells, islands for blue spells, mountains for red spells, and forests for green spells. These reflect the five teams on the back of every card.
