My name is Wes Rhodes, I'm from the Chinese Kung Fu Academy and for ExpertVillage.com and this is how to catch with the mantis claw. Now the mantis claw catch starts from a block. Using the outside of the forearm, placing the hand on top of their arm and locking the wrist into your arm. So we'll do one slow for you. So, you step in and punch. See it? The block happens, you place the arm around and you twist the waist, making a very strong grip. Give me one more try. That's it. Come on. See? Now this grip is very strong because of the way I lock it in with my wrist. Pull. See? It's a very strong grip. This is twofold: One, not only is it a strong grip but if he pulls away, poop! you just let the hand go and it's an easy shot to the eyes. So for self-defense it's a very useful technique. So we're going to break it down for me one more time, we're going to do one more slow so you can see. See? And you'll notice how my stance moves backward to allow them to come into your technique. See how he goes off-balance? Just like that. And then do one fast. See? Very simple. And the mantis claw, again, you want to be very relaxed. Close the fingers, tuck the wrist in tight and don't pull too much with the arms. It's all with the waist. It's very easy. And that's basically how you do the mantis claw and how you catch with the mantis claw in the Northern Praying Mantis style.
