Using a Front Kick in Self-Defense for Women
Get the knee up. Time. Okay, this is Steve Jimenez with Fit and Fearless Krav Maga, along with Marissa Esquivel. Right now we are going to go over the vertical front kick, hitting to a vertical target. What Marissa going to do—there are two different kicks that we have on this one. We have a defensive and an offensive. The offensive kick is going to be more penetrating and more damaging to the target. The defensive is going to more of a stopping technique. Now we went over this before where we talked about long range, intermediate range and short range weapon. Long range meaning the legs, medium range the straight punches, and short range the knees and elbows, and possibly head butts. From right here, what Marissa is going to do is, maybe the assailant is advancing forward, so what she is going to do is, to keep the person away, she is going to use the longer range. So maybe my hands cannot touch her, because actually her legs will be longer than my arm or my reach. So if she delivers the technique right on time, as I’m advancing in… as I am coming forward, she has her hands up; she is asking me to stay back. Stay back. And I’m coming forward, she looks at me and she wants to deliver a kick to keep me back. What she is going to aim for is, she is going to aim for the mid section area. Primarily right here near the belly, because what that will do is, it will push my hips back and it’ll actually stop my forward momentum. So that is a very good aim if you want to practice for it. If you want to practice with your boyfriend, your husband, your roommate, your neighbor, you always want to try to aim right for near the belly button, or maybe the belt buckle, because if you watch, she comes forward right from that area—now come forward—and pushes my hips back, and it actually puts her in a position for a lot of other techniques that we worked on. Elbows, here, knees there, straight punches, palm heel strikes, and knees, and round kicks even. Stepping, kicking there, or kicking to the inside of this leg, or kicking that way.
