The next thing that's real important with students, or even entire classes that you feel like don't like you, is don't take it personally. A lot of times, and I had to learn this the hard way. A lot of times students may seem unresponsive, or seem like they don't like you, because they're so concerned about the material in the course, or they're so concerned about how they're going to fare in your course, or they are so nervous about your course. You'll see this a lot in speech classes, especially public speaking. A student will get very defensive, and it is their own insecurities, that is making them defensive towards you, so it's very important not to take it personally if students reject you, if you will. I learned many, many years ago, that you cannot, under any circumstances, have every student, in every course, in every semester, like you. No matter how good you are, no matter how wonderful your course is, no matter how fabulously you present the material, there will be students who just don't like you, or just don't like your course, but you cannot take it personally. You have to focus on doing your job, and what is benefiting the student.
