The last thing that you have to do with students who are failing, is you have to detach, and what I mean by detach, is you do everything you can, to help that student succeed. You've taken a look at your standards, your expectations. You meet with the student. You make the students aware of what the situation is, but then you have to remove yourself. You have to allow the student to do what the student is going to do, and the student has to take responsibility, for what he or she does in your class, so you have to allow them to make their own decisions. Many, many, many students will have many, many, many excuses, for why they're failing your class.
