Another thing that you need to do with regards to failing students, is examine your standards, and I've had to do this a lot as a professor, because my expectations of my students are very high, and sometimes I've had to sit back and say, are these expectations too high? What should my standard be? And sometimes that standard has to change from course to course, from semester to semester, and a good way to tell if your standards are too high, is if a lot of students are constantly failing your class. Take a look at what your expectations are. What is a realistic expectation of your course, for a student, in this year 2008? It cannot be the same as it was twenty years ago, or even ten years ago, so take a look at what you're expecting. Are you expecting too much? Be realistic in what you expect the students to learn, and the amount of material that you give them, and the workload that you give them, to learn the material.
