Classroom Management: Let Students Teach

Other options for students not reading the textbook; maybe you don't like to give quizzes, or you don't want to give physical tests over the material for whatever the reason. Maybe you don't believe in tests or maybe you just don't want to have to grade all that. There are some other options that you can choose to make sure that the students are reading the material. First, allow the students to teach. OK, give them an opportunity to teach about a particular chapter or teach about a particular section. I do this activity every semester. I let students get partnered up or they get in groups. Each group has to teach the course, the class one of the chapters out of the book. They have to do visual aids. They have to teach as if I would teach right out of the book. That is a wonderful way for the students to read the material as well as giving them an opportunity to not feel like they're not always being taught at. To feel like a little bit of ownership in the class and get them involved in participation. That's one of the things you can do.
