Classroom Management: Self-evaluate

Something else that I strongly encourage after every semester, prior to the next semester, is evaluate yourself. The students are usually pretty forthcoming either in the class, or in their own evaluations, at the end of the semester, in letting you know what worked, what didn't, what they liked, what they didn't like, what they got out of the course. A lot of teachers, they teach the same thing, the same way, every single semester, and I encourage you to evaluate yourself. Look at what is working. Look at what is not working. Students are resisting your class. Students feel like they don't need your class. Well, what is it that you can do, to help them see that they need your class, or not be so resistant to your class, or enjoy your class, or get more out of your class? Never be afraid to try new things. Maybe they'll work, maybe they won't, but you'll never find great activities for the students, unless you evaluate what you're already doing, and possibly try to do something different, the next semester.
