Self-Defense Stance for Women
Hi! This is Steve Jimenez with Fit and Fearless Krav Maga, Austin, Texas. One of the things that we are going to over before we get in depth into the self defense tactics that we are going to be going over today… we want to go over a stance. What we are going to do is, we are going to use Marissa as a model, standing forward, hands down, passive. This is a passive stance. This is what we consider passive. This is a non-aggressive, non-fighting stance. Although this is a non-fighting stance, you can go into a fighting mode in this position right here, so we will go ahead and demonstrate that. So ready—fighting stance. Notice how she takes a step forward. We don’t ever step back, because that is not the right train of thought. You always want to go forward, forward into your attack. That is what is going to help you throughout the fight as well. Notice when she gets her hands up in her fighting stance, she is going to keep her hands up right here, nice and loose, not making a tight fist. She wants to stay relaxed. She is going to keep her elbows right here, protecting the mid section here. Her hands protecting the face as well. Notice how she has her chin down, eyes forward; looking real tough. Now notice on her stance now. We went from the hands down here. This is the most important. I wanted to keep this for the last part, because you want to have a good base. Your fighting tactics, your self defense tactics, everything is going to depend on your base. Notice how her feet are about shoulder width apart. Her toes and heels do not touch. There’s space; there’s a void between the two. You want to make sure that that is there. You always want to have your weight in the balls of your feet, never in the heels, so you are ready to explode forward. Notice how her knees are slightly bent. She has a little bit of energy stored up in her knees right now, so whenever she needs to explode forward with any kind of defense or combative, she can do so. Good. Alright, perfect.
