Straight Punches Self-Defense Techniques for Women

Hi! Steve Jimenez here with Fit and Fearless Krav Maga. Right now we are going to go over straight punches. The demonstration you just saw with Marissa is—one of the things you want to always keep in mind when you’re delivering straight punches, you want to use maximum power. You want to try and stay in control of your mind and your body, so you want to breathe, and breathing will allow you to do that. You will notice when Marissa was doing the drill, you could hear her breathing, exhaling on impact, and that is actually going to help you last through the fight. So here, we are going over it real slow, and I’m going to have Marissa come back, and on the pad, work on the punches nice and slow. I am going to go ahead and go over it and talk to you about some of the fine points here. So Marissa come back up. Okay, nice and slow, like about 20 percent. She is going to throw a jab, and one of the things when she extends that jab out, as she throws it out, notice how her body rotates into the punch. She is making contact with her hands in a vertical position, freeze. When you hit the pad, freeze. And then she also has her shoulder up, chin down to protect her face in any kind of counter attack. Notice how she has her right hand up. Whenever her other hand is not being used as a combative, then it is going to be up. So watch. You’ll see as she rotates the right cross, she lifts her left hand to protect her left side. Also notice how she puts her hip, pushing off the back foot using power from the ground right into the target. Right up here into the pad. Good.
