Golf Tips on Chipping: Part 2
Hi! I’m David Anderson for Expert Village. We are here at the Golf Club at Star Ranch outside of Austin, Texas helping you with some golf tips on how to improve your game. The subject now is chipping. You want to chip the ball low. Get a lot of run onto the green. Many times you will find yourself the ball is just off the edge of the green in the fringe but there is a long distance to the hole so you have a lot of green. What you need to do is take a less lofted club like a 5, 6 or 7 iron and it is your preference. I prefer the 7 iron to give you a little bit of loft but your still have the run. What you do is you’ve got 40 feet to the pen but only about 5 feet of fringe. So what you want to do is keep the ball low and get a lot of run up to the pen. So what you do is play the ball back in your stance off the back right heel for right handers. That closes down the club face. You choke up on the grip and you keep the ball up. Once again, demonstrating. You want to keep the ball low. The ball is played back in your stance so that the blade becomes a little bit more even. You don’t get a lot of loft. Just get it onto the green and get some run from the golf ball and get it up the hole. I’ll take that shot.
