How to Check the Chrome When Appraising a Classic Car
Okay I have done a complete circle of the car this time looking at the paint application. The third thing you look for is chrome, some cars have a lot of chrome on them, some cars don’t have much chrome on them but you want to see what kind of condition that chrome is and chrome is kind of a catch all term in that I’m talking about stainless steal, some things that look like chrome in the exterior of a car are actually plastic, just various surfaces but they have the shiny chrome finish on them. Chrome is very, very expensive to have redone, I’ve seen people pay 1500, 2000, 2500 hundred just to have a bumper rechromed, you got two bumpers on a car you have lots of pieces here and there so that can add up real quick. So I’m looking at the chrome on the car, how is it laid down, has it been rechromed or is it original, what’s the quality of the chrome work on the car? Is it beginning to peel, is it beginning to tarnish, you’re just looking for that all over the car, some cars as I’ve said have a lot of chrome on them, some don’t but you want to look real close at that because that if somebody’s considering buying a car, looking at the potential of value future value on a car and they see that they’re going to have to dump thousands of dollars into the chrome work on the car that’s not a good thing.
