Using an Irrigation Controller for Water Conservation Tips
Hi! I'm Alison Jordan with the City of Santa Barbara Water Conservation Program. Today I am speaking for expertvillage.com about water conservation. Right here is an irrigation controller. What this does is it turns on your sprinklers on your landscaping. Today I am going to show you a little bit about how to use this. Some people know this also as a sprinkler timer or irrigation clock. It is really good to get familiar with this to know what all the features are because it can really help you save a lot of water. Some times people have this set to kind of a standard default, sort of just running Monday, Wednesday, Friday for 15 minutes. But that is not necessarily all the plants watering needs are so I am going to show you a few of the features on here that will help you know how to use this and save water. Right there are the programs; 1, 2, 3, 4 programs. Each program will then let the sprinklers run at a different time and different amount of days. What I have here is I have program 1, I have lawn; program 2 I have trees and program 3 I have my low water using water wise plants. Then on each program I can set for different days. I can have my lawn on Monday and Thursday and say on my fruit trees I just want to have them once a week and my water wise plants I am going to have them just once a week, on Friday. Another feature on here is the cycle start so I just want to make sure right now that my plants are only starting at 6:00 in the morning or something like that. Those are kind of the main features of your irrigation controller.
