Basic Men's Steps for Dancing the Merengue
Hi this is Leslie Sack with expertvillage.com. My website is lesliesack.com, and the dance is merengue that we are doing. And the is the man's part for merengue. The basic step is essentially like marching; the hard part is the hips. So what you want to know about is about story of Colonel Merengue from the Dominican Republic. The story goes he got shot in the right leg. Alright he came home from the war, and the townspeople wanted to make him feel better, so all the guys pretended they got shot in the right leg. So if you are a colonel, or you want to just be like one, the basics will look like this. Just pretend you got shot in the right leg, and your right hip loose a little bit. So you usually count the basic in eights. So it would be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. So you are getting ready going to the side, and then eventually you are going to turn into a circle. So again just put the majority of your weight in your right leg eventually you right leg bends and straightens, but a good way to learn it is just how you think of one leg at a time. So guys you got 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 okay turn it to the left and keep my left toe out and in. So it is out, in, out, in, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 now I'm going to the right. I just think of, it's just slowly rotating a little rotisserie, just keep the track of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 or 1,2,1,2,1,2 boom, tic. Just see if you could go both directions, just to mix it up a little bit.
