How to Check Windshield Washer Fluid Levels
Hi! My name is Nate McCullough on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to talk about one of items involved in a major tune-up or vehicle overhaul. The item we are going to talk about is the washer solvent and filling it up. On this particular vehicle, the washer fluid reservoir is located right here and is indicated by this regular looking diagram; some vehicles may be labeled washer solvent. You are going to want to use washer fluid or washer solvent instead of just plain water being that plain water doesn’t have any cleaning properties to it other than being wet. Washer fluid or washer solvent is going to have some detergents and mild, very mild, solvents built into it to help break down dried on bug guts. Also if you live up here in Michigan like we do, you are going to want to use a winter washer solvent in the winter and in a summer washer solvent in the summer. The summer washer solvent isn’t going to have much alcohol added to it and will freeze in the winter time. On the other side, the winter solvent is going to have some de-icing abilities and is going to break down your ice and crust that builds up on your windshield. Go ahead and pop the cap and put that out of our way and it is going to feel like any other fluid. This one doesn’t have the necessary level to check for. We are just going to pour it right in there. There we go. Put our cap back on and that’s washer solvent in a nutshell for you.
