On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Raymond Temeyer with Lost Island Voyages, and we also have with us Valerie Kevorkian from Tarpoon Lagoon Dive Center in Miami Beach. We’re going to talk about snorkeling today and all the opportunities that it provides. Masks are an important part of your snorkeling equipment; they enable you to see in the water. A properly fitting mask is what you’re striving to achieve when picking out a mask. Ben is going to show us the proper way to see if a mask fits us. You want to put the mask up towards your face without the strap. You notice that he doesn’t have the strap on, he’s just looking to see that the mask is going to adhere to his face. He’s giving a little bit of a suction by breathing in through his nose. If he exhales out his nose, the mask will fall off of his face. Without having air coming through the mask when he puts it on, you won’t have water coming through, unlike a mask that improperly fits. That might fit him as well, but it’s a little bit bigger. You’ll notice that the mask doesn’t stick on quite as much as his first mask.
