Clearing Water Out of Snorkel & Mask

On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Raymond Temeyer with Lost Island Voyages, and we also have with us Valerie Kevorkian from Tarpoon Lagoon Dive Center in Miami Beach. We’re going to talk about snorkeling today and all the opportunities that it provides. Now, Ben is going to demonstrate how to clear water out of his snorkel. He lets his snorkel fill up with water for demonstration purposes then just blow out through his mouth hard. That will clear the water completely out of your snorkel so you can continue to breathe. If any time a wave covers your snorkel, you can clear it out. Now, Ben is filling his mask with water to show how you can clear your mask out. He puts his fingers on his forehead and blows through his nose, and that will clear all the water out of his mask. He can do that whether he’s under water or on the surface. At anytime during your snorkeling, you can clear the water out of your mask if you accidentally get water into it. Sometimes you’ll want to let water into your mask on purpose to clear the fog away from the mask if you get any fog inside the mask. Just allow the mask to flood, blow back out through your nose with your hand on your forehead. Show us Ben; demonstrate one more time. With your hand on your forehead and that’s going to blow all the water out if you blow out through your nose.
