Replacing a Tailgate: Disconnect & Remove Wiring

For removing a lot of your wires, most of your fasteners, a door trim tool works great. Once again, it's important to keep all your nuts and bolts and small parts separated in a container or a plastic bag. Now, so I can remove the tail gate from the vehicle and not have it connected, I'm removing any electrical harnesses that run into the door. Now that the harness is removed, I can pull the wire through the opening on the lift gate, so I can remove the hinge bolts. When removing a wiring harness, always be careful not to cut the wiring harness on sharp metal edges on the gate.
