Traditional Chinese Medicine: Herbal Chicken Soup Recipe

This segment, we're going to talk about how to make a special kind of chicken soup. It's great for longevity, to recover from long illnesses or blood loss. It's called, "Wu Chi Pai Feng Wan" and the most important component of this is actually a black chicken, which we'll show you and you can get that at an Asian market. There's some different ways that this formula is put together. We can use, usually about 8 to 10 grams of each herb. There's jiao jiao, we can use ginseng, Ren shen, Shan yao, Dang gui, Bai shao, Shan yao, some Huang qi (this formula is often times used for fertility as well) and lots of Rehmannia. We can use both Sheng di and Shu di. I like to use Lianzi, which is lotus seeds and then one of my favorite ingredients, is Lu jiao jiao, which is actually the glue from deer antlers. But we can't forget our most important aspect, and that's our black chicken. So, look for this and you'll find that it's a whole bird when you get that at the store. And so, check for the giblets inside but you actually put the entire bird in because both the bones, the feet (and he still got his paws on there) is important in part of this soup. We then cover it up with water and cook it for about two hours and this is the same way we would make almost any chicken soup. So once it's done, we end up--and you can take the herbs out or you can leave them in--you end up with this wonderful chicken soup. And you don't want to eat a lot of it because it's very strong, but you can enjoy the broth from this--it's the most potent, herbal formula for nourishing the qi in the blood, it can help with really recovering from serious long illness. It's great!
