Aikido Jo Weapon Handling Tips

Alright, we're just going to go over basic handling of the Jo. The Jo is actually a penetrating weapon so, i.e., a spear. Bang. So, a couple of basic grips, over under, reverse, which is a double, any variation therein. You can hold it like the sword. You have lots of choices with this. Now, on the stroke, for the actual punch and, like I said, it is a spear weapon. It's designed to push through. So, you're moving from the hip, you're going to move from the hip and as your hips reach their zenith, your hands are going to follow behind and extend through and extend the force from your feet and from your hips themselves. One, two, three, four. If I were to let this let this go, it ought to go perfectly straight. Now, just be careful, make sure you have the hold of the end of the Jo, little bit of a finger off the end. And it's very light in the left hand, so the stroke is easy. Okay? Again, you shouldn't feel any stress when doing this. If you're holding on to it so tight, you're doing something wrong.
