Cap & Rotor Cleaning

Hello, my name is Jeff Fiffie. On behalf of Expert Village, I'll be showing you how to perform basic field maintenance on your car. What we're going to talk about next is your cap and rotor which is located on your distributor. This cap comes off after you unscrew the screws on the side. It?s very important that this cap with the little contacts on the inside are clean. The purpose of this cap is it comes in, ignition comes in through from the coil into the cap through these little contacts here and back out to the spark plugs. So what I do is just take a little small screwdriver like so and scrape these little contacts off. You see that corrosion coming off there? Comes right off. Scrape it off. And this is going to help you on your fuel economy.
