How to Remove Your Lift Gate Latch

Today we're changing a rear latch on a ninety six Ford Explorer. In this step I'm going to demonstrate the proper procedure for the actual latch removal and unhooking of your power lock assembly. Now you can't see it, up inside here, but I'm going to take and disconnect electrical connector and I'll give you a close up, when I get it out. There we go. As you can see we have that long release rod and you're going to want to make sure not to turn this because that is an adjustment point. This is your electrical connector, right here and it's your standard connector. You're going to take a small screw driver, slip it in there, pry up on the release and slip it out. Let me go ahead and show you how that's done. This one's actually broken, so I can just demonstrate. You can see the hooks are just going to sit right on here, you're going to pry those up and disconnect it, just like so. From here we are going to take a salvage our release rod. We're just going to take and work it out, just like so. That is the proper service procedure and disassembly for removing your latch, from the body of the vehicle.
