In this clip we're going to talk about the proper way to remove and replace an electronic cooling fan. In this step we're going to talk about the proper service procedure for unhooking the electronics of our primary and secondary cooling fans from the cooling fan assembly. The first thing you'll want to do prior to touching any electronic connections is unhook the negative battery cable. Any time you service electronics on a vehicle, you're going to want to unhook that. What that will do is deaden any of the exposed positive wires. Take my thirteen millimeter socket and undo the bolt on the negative battery terminal. Now this will wipe the computer’s memory, it will also reset your clock and radio station memory. So if you want to remember your radio stations and you don't think you will, it's a good idea before you unhook this, to turn the ignition on, check your preset radio stations, and write them down. I'm going to go ahead and wiggle it off, if your battery terminal is corroded while you have it apart it's a good idea to take and go ahead and clean it up. Once you have the terminal off, you can take a small pick or screw driver or pliers, depress the locking tabs and unhook the electronics. Right there is one, like I said this has a primary and a secondary cooling fan. The primary’s the large one and will run when the engine is hot and is commanded on to run through the duty cycle. The secondary cooling fan is used mostly when you run your air conditioning. When you run the air conditioning additional heat is going to be run via the refrigerant through your condenser. This secondary cooling fan will take up for that additional heat. Go ahead and depress the locking tab on this one, and unhook it, right like so. That is the proper service procedure for unhooking the electronics on your electronic cooling fan.
