In this clip we're going to talk about the proper service procedure to remove, inspect and overhaul your vehicles alternator. In this step we're going to talk about the proper service procedure for reconnecting our vehicle electronics back to our alternator. What we're going to do is take and line our alternator up with the mounting pattern on the vehicle. So you can see we have one mounting bolt on top. We're going to line it up with the one mounting bolt on top. Just slip my alternator down into roughly the position it goes in and attach the charging cable that runs from the alternator to the battery. That's this big heavy guy right here with the rubber protection on it. We'll take and hold that out of the way and screw down the nut. I've seen several alternators damaged by over tightening this nut so I want you to take careful consideration when screwing it down. Alright. And move the rubber out of the way and snug this guy now. I'm going to run it down by hand just like so first. After I make contact I'm going to give it just a buzz of a turn. It does not have to be extremely tight. if you over tighten it. You will break it. Possibly damaging the electronic connection in the side. Most alternators, this is the most difficult connection to get at. If you can it'll save you some hassle, take and connect this before you actually mount the alternator. You can see this one is tucked back inside and would be difficult to reach without some special tools. I'm going to go ahead and connect the first connector and my voltage regulator like so. Listen for the click when the connectors engage. Just like that. From here we have the integrity of our electronics restored. I'm going to go ahead and connect my negative battery cable to the vehicle. I'm going to take a 13 millimeter. Most of the time they're a 13 or a half inch. They can be a 10 millimeter or a 3/8ths as well. Now you're only going to want to tighten this down until the connector doesn't turn. Any tighter than that and you will damage the soft lead that the battery terminal is made of. That is the proper service procedure for reconnecting the electronics of your vehicle back to your alternator.
