Okay, this is about a yard of material. I usually rip mine into strips, which is exactly what I did to this one, and you always rip it so that the stretchy part is the skinny part. You want the stiff part to be the long part because it will make it a lot easier to sew. I'm making the straps for the apron, generally for the side straps, I use a thicker material and for the top strap I like to use a lighter material because it gets folded over twice. What you do is just cut it, so you've got about the width that you want, this is about how wide you'll need it, just rip it down. And then depending on how technical you want to get, you can iron it, so that it's folded in half I don't generally find that it's necessary, but some people just like to have everything, make sure their corners are perfect, and feel free to do that if you want. And then you just throw it onto the machine and stitch all the way down. And you need to adjust the material if it starts sliding so that it doesn't get real crooked on you. One advantage to ripping the strips is that they always come out even, so this is a lot easier. When you cut strips, a lot of times you'll have a little fluctuation in it, and then it's much harder to get a straight edge. Plus this makes sure that your material is running together, you don't have spots that it's not cut crooked on the material, this way you know that it's straight on the material. And that's how you sew the strap.
