Hi there, I'm Tracy Goodwin and I'm the red sweater lady. Today we're going to be talking about how to refute persuasive claims. Now this topic can be good for a lot of different things. You might be working on debates in school, or maybe you've become a debater on the debate team. You're going to be doing a lot of refuting of persuasive claims. Or perhaps you are involved in a speech class in which you are doing persuasive speeches and maybe there's going to be question and answer periods, or perhaps you are expected to evaluate a persuasive speaker. What's going to be really important for you, to be able to take a look at their claims and know how to prove whether they are valid. This also happens in the work place a lot as well. Maybe you've given a presentation or you've watched a presentation. What is the company claiming that they're going to do? You might need to have the ability to take a look at what they're saying, and you need to know how to refute this and make sure that what they're saying is really the truth. It can get a little confusing but actually there are some very very simple easy guidelines to follow that will teach you how to refute persuasive claims.
