Power Door Lock Actuator Removal: Ford Explorer Lift Gate Repair

Today, we're changing the power lock actuator in the rear lift gate of a ninety six Ford Explorer. In this step, I'm going to demonstrate the proper service procedure for removing the power lock actuator from the door frame. We have one small electrical connector to deal with. Take and release it just like so. There you go. Once you have the electronics disconnected, you can begin working on the lock actuator. The lock actuator is this little motor here, and it's what takes and converts the energy from electronic to mechanical to open and close the lock. This is actually riveted on the bracket, so we're going to take and bypass that by opening it up and rolling the lock actuator out of bracket. This bracket, here, is actually riveted on at the factory. So, to take and bypass having to drill that rivet out, we're just going to open the bracket up and slip the lock motor off of the pins. Just like so. And it's a lot easier then taking and drilling and re-riveting that switch, or that bracket. Once you have that off, you can take and manipulate it around and off of the lock release latch. All right, we're going to take and rotate it off of the pivot, just like so. That is the proper service procedure for removing your power lock actuator from the door frame.
