Tools for Replacing a Rear Lock Actuator on a Ford Explorer

Today we're changing the power lock actuator in the rear lift gate of a ninety-six Ford Explorer. In this step, I'm going to talk about the supplies required, in order to change your lock actuator. What I have here, in front of me, is the stuff you're going to need. I have a good standard, and metric socket set. Now, we're going to be working inside the rear door, to change this lock actuator. So, you're going to want to make sure that your set comes with this other half, up here. This is three eights, and half inch drive. They're relatively large sockets. What we have down here is the quarter inch drive section. As you can see, we got some real dinky ones. These will fit inside the door much better than any of this other stuff up here. Make sure you have a good quarter inch set. I have a five way. This is actually a carpenters tool, but we're going to use this end of it to take and pop out the Christmas trees that hold the door skin on the rear lift gate. Also have a small selection of screwdrivers. Two Phillips. I have a number one, and a number two Phillips screwdriver. And I have a large flat blade screwdriver. I also have my magnetic tray to hold any fasteners or supplies while we're working on the vehicle. I have a used power lock actuator. Now the cost of this guy from Ford is about sixty bucks. I picked this one up at a salvage yard for five dollars. You're going to want to make sure that it works, or talk to the salvage yard about their guarantee. This one has a ninety day warranty on it, which is the same as a brand new one gets. So, you're going to go ahead, save a lot of money by using a used one. What we're going to do is take and lubricate it up with some silicone spray after we get it all together. These are the tools and supplies required in order to change your power lock actuator.
