Installing a Brake Caliper
Hi! My name is Nate McCullough on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to talk about re-installing one of the components we had to remove to change our broken wheel stud. The component we are going to be installing in this clip is the vehicle's brake and caliper. As you can see, I have the caliper back here hung on these rear trailing arms, not hanging on its own by its brake hose. The caliper is pretty cut and dry on this vehicle. It has an alignment stud or mounting stud here on the bottom which does not require removal. What we are going to do is line up the hole and slide the caliper on. Once you have the caliper slid into place, it will simply roll into its necessary position, just like so. Once you have the caliper holding the pads together, you can remove your hand and it will do the work of keeping the return springs where it needs to be. You are going to take your caliper mounting bolt, go ahead and start it in its hole and tap your caliper down until the bolt will push into its corresponding hole. Once you hear that click, you can go ahead and start to hand tighten your bolt. Always, always, always hand start the bolt. Once you have it hand started, it's okay to go ahead and run it down your ratchet. I don't suggest using air tools. You only get one chance for the air tools. The way they build them these days they can be extremely powerful. It may just be strong enough to tighten over tighten, strip and or break that bolt off in your caliper bridge. Okay. Just about a quarter turn past snug is going to be torqued properly for this bolt there and that's for installation of the vehicle's brake and caliper.
