Montessori Penny Pinching Activity

This activity is called penny pinching, and the point with this is to strengthen the pincer grasp so that the children can learn to hold a pencil properly. Just have a tray with a bunch of pennies on it. In short, this is how you demonstrate how to do this activity. Show them the pincer grasp, pick up the penny, and put it here. Each time make sure you show the pincer grasp. Complete this activity until you have all the pennies over to the other side. When demonstrating, I generally would only put about five or six pennies on the tray so that you can complete the entire activity. Of course, when you're done, then you have the pennies back. That's penny pinching.
