In this clip, we're going to talk about the proper service procedure for removing and replacing a front strut on a front-wheel drive vehicle. In this step, we're going to talk about the proper service procedure for removing the upper retaining nut and the bearing plate. What I'm going to do is take just the sharp object, I got a chisel here and pop off the weather cap just like so, which is exposing the retaining nut. I'm going to take and roll my strut around so the compressor is on the floor. Put my foot on it and use a socket and my ratchet to remove it. Now some of these upper nuts will be locking, some will have extreme corrosion built up on them. It may be more difficult than this to remove it but this is the method you're going to want to use. Right there. This is our bearing plate. I'm going to take and inspect it. Make sure there is nothing torn or damaged inside of it. This one looks pretty good. There's our spacer washer. I'm going to take and set that right where it goes on the inside and that's going to remove this strut just like so. That is the proper service procedure for removing your upper retaining nut bearing plate and strut assembly.
