How to Jack Up a Vehicle

In this clip, we're going to talk about the proper service procedure for removing and replacing a front strut on a front-wheel drive vehicle. In this step, we're going to talk about the proper service procedure for jacking up your vehicle and setting your jack stands. On a front-wheel drive car, you're going to want to pay particular attention to jacking placement. You're going to aim for a large portion of super structure or of engine cradle. You're not going to want to jack up on the lower core support of the radiator, you will bend and damage the radiator and it will again need replaced. Just slide my floor jack underneath, find my heavy piece of super structure and begin jacking. Once you have the vehicle high enough to work on comfortably, you can go ahead and place your jack stands. Again, we're aiming for a very heavy piece of super structure. You're not going to want to set it on the oil pan or transmission pan or any front-end components that would get damaged from the weight of the vehicle. And right there. Once you have your jack stands set where you want them, its ok to go ahead and release the pressure on your floor jack. You're going to want to do it very slowly so the vehicle settles down onto the jacks instead of crashing down. Once the vehicle is settled on the jack stands, you can squeeze your floor jack down and roll it out of the way. The vehicle is now safe to be worked on. That is the proper method for jacking your vehicle and placing it on your jack stands.
