Alright an ami is a circular motion with the hips, we use this by itself, we bend our knees, we move our hips in a circle and that’s called an ami. Now if you’re going to go around the island in hula talk you put your hand out in front, bend your knees and you do four circles, one, two, three, four and that’s called going around the island, now some islands are bigger than others and therefore you take a few more to go around the island and there you are that’s around the island.
