Headlight Restoration: 600 Grit Sandpaper

O'kay the first thing you want to do is open the hood of course. You get a better clearance of the headlight. Next I am not going to use a 320 sand paper grade because it does not look as bad as some of the other headlights that I have seen so I am going to use the 600 grade and I am going to fold it. I use my own hand so wet it down, wet the actual headlight and we are going to do the process of sanding. Be very careful in sanding around these edges. You could use tape but I use my tape last for polishing. I am going to start with the 600 and just stand the area down. You are going to see the scratches actually. You might be able to see the yellow and that is just the oxidation coming off this. I am going to go ahead and continue sanding with the 600 to get rid of all these little spots that you see. You might not be able to see it with the camera but you can feel it and you want to get rid of the roughness of it. Every headlight is different so you want to make sure and this is a very small headlight. I continue wetting it so that it will be much smoother for my hands to run through this and it cleans it off. I can be able to see if they are gone and I would stop sanding but they are still there. Be very careful on the edges. If this is going to be your first time I would tape it down but I have been doing this for a while. I would just be careful around the edges. Let's look at it again. Wet it down and if you wet it down you will be able to see it much better and see any areas that you missed. On this with the 600 sand paper that I used it looks difference and I feel that it is smooth and so we are going to continue to that next step.
