Holistic Back Pain Exercise: Lying Down

Now we're going to demonstrate, on our patient, how to do the exercise when your laying down. First, what you do, you make sure, "Is it your back that's hurting? Your low back?" "Yeah." "OKay." So you have your patient, or you yourself, stretch out your low back to where you feel a little gentle tug in the low back, like traction. "OKay." Now, I'm going to demonstrate to you first and then I want you to try it. "OKay." You'll take two big breaths, the last breath you blow out all of your air. Then you try to feel like you're trying to suck your breath in right here and you may feel something in your low back, close to where your pain is. So you breathe in and out, in and out, blow out, don't let any more air in, and try to suck air in right here and hold it as long as you can. When you need a breath, take a breath. OKay, big breath. Out. In. Out. Out, out, out, out, out, out, out. No more breath, suck in. That's good, keep pulling. Excellent, excellent. Did you feel anything in your low back? "Yeah!" Just a little bit? "Uh huh." Good.
