Soccer Warm-up Game
My name is Glen. We are going to show you another warm-up exercise. This is called European handball. It doesn't look like soccer but it actually prepares the team very well for soccer. It gets them moving and gets them warmed up and they know how to play so let's go. The object is to knock down the big ball with the little ball. Each team has a direction and if it hits the ground, it goes to the other team. The little ball I find is a little easier for young players to handle. That's good. Play it. That's good. Goal, 1 point. Each player can take 3 steps to advance the ball. You also notice that players tend to spread out and communicate which are also some key skills that you want to get out of your youth soccer players. This is a good beginning of a practice game for maybe10 minutes. You usually can tell when interest is starting to go away from a game which is always a good time to move on. If they are having some success as they are having right now, I would let this go on for maybe a good 10 minutes and move on to another element of the practice.
