Hook Lies: Golf Fairway Woods

Ok, in this segment we are going to go over, you've hit a good tee shot and you've landed on a slope so the ball is above your feet, but you've still have a decent amount of distance to get to the green. So, we are going to use this fairway wood here. Now these are longer clubs and they have less loft, so, you really can hook these if you don't strike these properly. What I want you to think about is, the ball is above my feet. So I'm going to line up like I was hitting a normal shot off of a flat fairway and I'm going to aim, I'm going to adjust that to the right because this ball is going to go from the right to the left because it's above my feet. So my natural swing has to be adjusted for the contour of the slope, and since I'm using the longer club it's going to give me more of a potential hook plus I have to be aware of not hitting the club into the ground. So I want you, since it's going to be a hook, it's going to give you more distance than normal so you don't need to over swing, so I want you to relax and swing easy, so just step into it, aim a little bit to the right, and then take just a nice, easy swing. And that's a perfect hook right where I want it to go. So, these are great shots to practice because you need to practice them because you are going to run into this type of shot when you are on the course, so spend some time with it and you will actually relish the challenge when it's presented to you.
