Checking the Serpentine Belt
Hi! My name is Nate McCullough on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to talk about the proper maintenance interval for a serpentine belt or a V-belt. The proper maintenance interval in maintenance is going to be every 6,000 miles or every 6 months, that’s twice a year and every second oil change. In my opinion, the belt should be checked any time you open the hood or if you are planning on going on a long trip, when you fill up before your trip, it is a good idea to go ahead and open the hood, check your various fluids and give your belts an eyeball. Serpentine belts are automatically adjusted by a spring loaded style tensioner and shouldn’t under normal operating conditions need adjusting. V-belts on the other hand are not automatically adjusted and the tension should be checked by the book every 6 months or 6,000 miles.
