The Round Kick in Kung Fu Self-Defense for Children

Hi! My name is Dan Schmidt from Chinese Martial Arts Center and for expertvillage.com. In this clip we’re going to be discussing Kung Fu for kids. We’re also going to be showing you the round kick, which is performed like this. You start feet about shoulder width apart, you step up with the back foot, and using the top of the foot, bend the knee, and kick straight up like that. Once again, a fighting stance, you step up, kick. Okay, now on the other side, same thing; step up, kick. You can do it low this way or you can do it higher up that way. Okay, Bri, if you can show us. Step up and round kick. Okay, one more. Step up, round kick. Good. Practical application for round kick can be this. For instance, if someone’s facing you with the same leg, left leg to left leg, you can use it as a way to fake. If you want to do it fast, you go here and punch. Okay, also the round kick can be used as like a counter attack. Let’s say he punches straight in, he can expose himself, you can step off, kick straight in this way using the whole leg. Or if he just comes in with a front hand, as he comes in, you can just straight up to the head. That’s the practical applications for a round kick and Kung Fu.
