Bicycle Maintenance: Shifting

So if we take a look at the shifting and what is actually going on on the bicycle, once you have got it in your stand here and you are running through the bike you can notice if it is moving too far up or too low once you have got it spinning there. The way you do that is you address it here and your barrel adjuster. So if I need more tension I turn it in towards the wheel to increase the tension and if I need it less i can bring it back down and allow it to drop down the cassette a little bit easier. The same with the crank, if you are having troubles with the chain going into the big ring you need more tension in your front d?railleur there and you would address it in your barrel adjuster whether it be increasing tension to get it to shift easier into the big ring or decreasing tension to get it to drop from the big ring to the small ring. Little things like that with the bike being in storage or not ridden in a while in the winter your cables will stretch and they will need a little bit of adjustment so take some time and fine tune your cables and make sure that they are correct.
