The Rising Block Punch in Kung Fu Self-Defense for Children

Hi! My name is Dan Schmidt from Chinese Martial Arts Center and for expertvillage.com. In this clip we’re going to be discussing Kung Fu for kids and we’re going to be demonstrating rising block reverse punch, and it looks like this. You start fist to hip, feet together. You can step out with the right foot; you circle the hand out, block up, and punch with the left. From there, you can just bring your feet together, step out the left side, circle the hand out and up, twist, punch with the right hand. Okay, Bri, start from right here. Fist to hip, step out, punch, feet together, step out with the other leg, block punch. In Kung Fu, we use the stance work to build up the legs, and also the waist to build the blocking and twisting power for more force. In modern application, you can use this technique like this. So if someone punches to the head, you can block up and use the waist for the block. Not the arm alone, but use the waist and twist out. You can punch anywhere. To the solar plexus, to the rib, you can even punch to the face if you’d like, or you can use both blocks at once. So you can block, punch one, punch again, two, and punch on the third. Okay, that is rising block reverse punch for Kung Fu.
