Unlike big game hunting there's not as much scouting for specific animals when you're out hunting with a shotgun. Scouting would consist, while hunting with a shotgun, of going to the lake and seeing if there's good cover for ducks, seeing if there's a good duck population moving in and out of the lake. Or even going up in the mountains and scouting out in the area for upland game and small game to hunt. For the safety of yourself and the safety of others make sure that you're out of the city, out of areas where other people might be. And make sure that you bring proper protection for any inclement weather. Because when you're out in the wilderness it can be a dangerous place and having things to prepare yourself, whether it's a backpack with food, water and emergency supplies, should always be had while scouting out areas.
