How to Maintain New Dreadlocks

I'm going to talk a little bit about maintenance, maintaining your dreads early on. A lot of people will have the misconception that once you get dreadlocks you don't have to do anything. That is not true. They actually require a lot of work. So after you got them started and you got them all knotted up and everything, they are going to look pretty, they are not going to look to great. They are going to be really fuzzy and they are not, they are kind of big and it takes about 6 months to a year depending on different factors. Especially depending on how well you take care of them for them to lock up completely and when they get all compressed and they get kind of hard and you know once they lock up it is pretty free and clear. So early on, the more you play with them the better. You could do this thing called palm rolling. That is were you just kind of take them in your hand you just do this. You do this. That helps them that helps facilitate the lock. You could also kind of twist them like this. The more you play with them like that the better. Like it really helps the time for them to lock up. When you as far as you want to also with the dread wax like you use when you are starting them you also want to also pretty much regularly apply the dread wax to your dreads to keep them together and keep them from because they have the tendency to merge and attach themselves to each other. Which is kind of bad so you want to make sure you watch that but the dread wax keeps them better and also makes them look better. But, when your early on when you shampooing your hair especially right after you start you I did not do this but, one thing that you could do that helps because when your washing your hair that tends to loosing them up. You could were like a pair of pantyhose you know cut the legs off and put that over and you could wash your hair with the pantyhose on and keeps that protects them from the washing. You also probably it is good to wear pantyhose or like a dew rag or some kind of hat when you are sleeping because you know you move around a lot and you are sleeping that could loosen them up to.
