Lower Body Stretches: Seated Splits

Okay, a lot of your ground stretches are going to emulate the standing ones, but it's just a way, again to get the most complete stretch possible. So this is going to be like the standing splits, but it's the seated splits. So what Steve's going to do is reach out to his foot and he can go across his body and again this is more advanced stretch. Come people just have to start with the nearer arm and just do what they can just to lean over, get the leg stretched and if you can really get over here then you'll get some of your back stretched out as well. Give yourself a good solid ten count. We'll go ahead and have him switch over to the other foot as well. Again, you can see he's reaching across here so he's getting a lot more stretched out then just his leg, but the concentration is on the hamstring and the calf. Pulling the toe and keeping the foot up is an important part that he'll feel through his calf as well. Go ahead and go just down to the middle, you can reach down towards the middle or you can grab each foot and pull yourself down and keeping the feet up as well. If you're very limber you can have a partner stretch where they easily push down. Again, the responsibility is on the person that's helping out to not force the person into to much of a stretch. This will help him get a little bit looser if he's a really limber guy, help the lower back as well. Give yourself the ten count by three and you should be good to go. If you have to repeat any of these steps feel free to do so.
